University of Michigan Soccer Club The University of Michigan Soccer Club was created in 1921, making it one of the the oldest soccer clubs in the state. Records indicate that the club, which was established under the name of the Wolverine Soccer Club, has been in a continuous state of existence since 1948. In 1999, the Board of Control of Intercollegiate Athletics made a decision to add a men's varsity soccer program to the Athletic Department.
